The bad stuff: The mileage is just an estimate because the odometer hasn't worked since I bought it (But again, the engine has been rebuilt recently so high mileage is less of an issue). I recently resurfaced the cylinder heads and replaced the head gaskets so the original 1.9L Liquid Cooled engine runs very nicely

The van has a Jetta engine with a 2.0 inline conversion and about 50,000 miles on the engine. Here's a list of the work and what we've had replaced: Windshield, Sender and vent hoses to the gas tank, Transaxle, timing belt, alternator belt, power steering belt, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, accelerator cable, ball bearings, rear wheel brake drums, Tires, muffler, O2 sensor. The van passes UT safety and emissions with flying colors

Although the AC is not working (needs a new compressor), the power locks and power windows are fine. I replaced the original stereo system with a Blaupunkt CD player. I purchased this Vanagon in 2001 and continue to use it daily Power Windows✔ Power Locks✔ CD Player✔ Air Conditioning

All original 1 owner vw from california. I bought this vw from the original owner in california. It is all very original and in great running condition. I use this van as my daily driver. Everything works except the ac. It drives very nice and very smooth. Being that it is all original it would need a paint job however the originality of it adds to the novelty of owning a vanagon. I have had this bus for a couple years now and don't know much about its history and also have know very little about volkswagen's. The body is probably the best part i picked it up in vegas so it has very little rust, the glass is all in and the windshield is the only one with a crack in it. I think all the seats are in it and has boxes of parts like seat belt's and hubcaps. The engine block and trn's are in but it looks like the carb and intake is missing. It is very roomy and the interior is still in great condition. We lowered the price because the head gasket and coolant reservoir need to be replaced and so it does not run and will need to be towed away. Once those are fixed this van is still full of adventure. It is very roomy and the interior is still in great condition. This has the larger 1. 9 liter original engine and it was recently rebuilt with all new bearings and seals. However the head gasket and coolant reservoir tank need to be replaced. I also added a tow hitch and use it to haul around my dirt bike, it works great. 1987 volkswagen vanagon gl syncro 178k original milesnew driveshaft, new battery, steering rack, wheels and tires. Oil buzzer comes on briefly at low rpm's after long bouts of stop and go driving on hot days. This has happened once or twice to me. I recommend adding lucas oil during the summer. Sensors are cheap to replace so i would also start there. 8 on gowesty)ac column sags - cosmetic issue only. This was a design flaw as the mounts are plastic and become brittle and snap after time on these older vehicles. (see photos). I'm sure there's a way to retrofit but i have not invested the time yet.
