1974 1600 thing $10,500 obo works great.. New tires, new top, (side screens need to be redone), new carb., new generator. Seats are in great shape (one has small tear) floor is solid - just welded the areas under battery. Probably original (ie. I cant prove it !) - was used as tow vehicle for a big mobile home. Front tow bar still fitted.

Runs and drives great! Clean title in hand! I have owned "gilligan" for 19 years and this car has always been my most prized possession, but life happens and we have to part. New: gas tank, muffler, convertible top, ignition switch, battery, pioneer speakers. Also has a cd player with usb port. Strong running stock 1600 dual port engine with single carb! I drove all the way from pocatello, idaho to saint george! Body and paint are in pretty good condition, not mint, but in the 90th percentile as far as vw things go. Odometer doesn't work. Needs a new fuel gauge sender (cheap easy fix). Originally this was an "acapulco" style thing, the rarest and most valuable edition, and restored to the original condition and paint scheme they can sell for 4 times what i'm asking. I need the cash so i'm firm on the price and no trades, and i'll only sell to someone who is excited to welcome this treasure into their life. If restored to the original Acapulco style paint job and upholstery, he could resell for as much as $40,000. I will only sell to someone who is excited for him to become a part of their life. Also, he is an original Acapulco Thing, the most valuable and rare edition sold

Very clean 1973 thing. Strong engine and tranny, new tires and top, upholstery in great shape. Paint is good but not perfect. There are a few small paint dings and a larger (5") scrape on the passenger door. Very little surface rust, no cancer. Windows appear original and in good condition. Wood floors redone and look great. Wipers work, all lights work. Strong running dual port 1600 motor with new plugs carburetor, wires, etc. I've owned this and driven it often for about two years. Only selling to help fund a restoration on a 21 window. Needs nothing for a great, above average daily driver. Solid example of a very nice '73 thing. Email: byu1975@hotmail. Com.

Bought it from a guy who used it as a tow vehicle behind his motorhome, thus he had it painted from the original white with blue trim (Acapulco/safari) to the current good looking paint job to match his motorhome. This Thing has been driven less than 500 miles a year since we bought it in 2003, and recently had the engine/carburetor rebuilt. The replacement parts are all German parts, not the Brazilian parts that many places order
